Later in the afternoon, visit the National Memorial Chorten, a large white structure crowned by a golden spire. It is located near the center of Thimphu and is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
Afterward, we will take an exploratory walk along Thimphu’s main street and through the market area.
We will explore Ka Ja Throm. Formerly known as the Centennial Farmers’ Market (CFM), Ka Ja Throm marks a significant transformation in Thimphu’s urban landscape and has been designated as the “Market District,” where the economies of leisure, culture, knowledge, employment, and tourism converge.

In the morning, take a short drive north of the city to reach the Buddha Dordenma, located atop a hill within the serene Kuenselphodrang Nature Park.
This extraordinary statue brings to life an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century AD, which was unearthed by Terton Pema Lingpa, a discoverer of religious treasures. It is believed that this statue emanates an aura of tranquility and joy, extending its influence throughout the world.
Next, take the walk from Buddha Dordenma to Changangkha Lhakhang (an easy hike of about an hour and a half). As you make your way along this trail, you’ll be greeted by the magnificent sight of thousands of prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, creating a colorful and spiritual welcome.
Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, an ancient temple with a rich history dating back to its founding by the lama Phajo Drugom Shigpo.
After lunch, to delve into the traditional crafts of Bhutan, visit the National Institute of Zorig Chusum; founded in 1971, it is the premier institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the thirteen traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan.
Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu (Altitude 2,320m).
After breakfast, you’ll set out on a scenic drive to Paro along a beautiful scenic route. Upon arrival in Paro, you’ll check in at your hotel.
The charming Paro Valley is a microcosm of Bhutan’s rich culture, captivating landscapes, and a tapestry of myths and legends.
Mount Chomolhari, with its majestic height of 7,314 meters, rises as a pristine symbol at the northern end of the valley.
In Paro, we will visit the Ta Dzong, originally built as a watchtower and now home to the National Museum. The museum boasts an extensive collection that includes ancient thangka paintings, textiles, weapons and armor, household objects, and a diverse selection of natural and historical treasures.
The visit to Ta Dzong will be immediately followed by a short walk along the path leading to Rinpung Dzong—also known as Paro Dzong—whose name translates as the “fortress of the heap of jewels.” This dzong has a long and fascinating history.
In the afternoon, take an exploratory stroll through downtown Paro and the local market.
You will spend the night at a hotel in Paro, located at an altitude of 2,280 meters.
After an early breakfast, set out on a fascinating hike to Taktshang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest (a round-trip hike of approximately 5 hours). It is one of Bhutan’s most famous monasteries, perched on a cliff face 900 meters above the floor of the Paro Valley. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery; hence its name, the Tiger’s Nest. This site has been recognized as a highly sacred place; it was visited by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and, today, is visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime.
In the late afternoon, venture to the farthest end of the valley to explore the newly restored Drukgyel Dzong. Built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 to commemorate a major military victory over Tibetan invaders, its name—Victorious Druk—reflects its historical and strategic importance. The grandeur of Drukgyel Dzong was even featured in a 1914 issue of National Geographic magazine, despite having been devastated by a fire in 1951. On clear days, the village below the dzong offers a breathtaking view of Mount Chomolhari (7,314 m).
Later, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple that is one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas during the reign of the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. The founding of this temple marked the introduction of Buddhism to Bhutan.
